Grilling season is here

With warm weather looking to stay around for a while, this means that it's time for everyone to start planning outdoor parties and hang outs. This means that it is finally time to fire up the grill. Grilling does sound like an easy and harmless activity, it can actually be a major cause of house fires. Grilling out can cause around 8,900 house fires each year. Gas grills are the leading cause of fires rather than charcoal grills because of the gas being used near an open flame. Here are some easy grilling tips to keep you and your family safe this summer.
- Use your grill outside and away from the sides of buildings
- Ensure your grill is stable on the ground or your deck
- Keep your grill and grilling area clean at all times
- If you have a propane grill, check for propane leaks
- If the flame goes out as you start to grill, wait just a few minutes before trying to re-light it
- Use lighting fluid with caution
- Make sure to wear suitable clothing for grilling
- Be ready to put the fire out after you have finished grilling
